 People really don&#8217;t seem to realize it, how every stereotype associates everyone who slightly fits that stereotype to the stereotype.  People don&#8217;t seem to realize how even stereotypes that are used comically or the so called &#8220;positive stereotypes&#8221; can be so harmful.  I mean with the positive stereotypes, people think well &#8220;its okay because its a compliment&#8221;.  For one thing, you&#8217;re pointing out a difference, its a stereotype, its wrong.  But furthermore, it harms all of those who do not fit the stereotype, requiring them to fill an unnecessary role for them in life.  </p> <p>Then with the whole &#8220;comedic stereotypes&#8221; and &#8220;its okay because its true&#8221;.  That logic is just so stupid its ridiculous.  Just because you observe some population to have some similar attributes does not mean that you automatically deserve to be held to that standard.  For example, I share the same last name as a composer who was anti-Semitic.  Most would find it absurd to say that I should somehow be judged by his actions.  Yet, we do this every single day with every stereotype we purvey, its  no different than that example, and it is in fact worse.  The relations are far less clear, yet we act upon them.  This entire rant stems from the recent Trayvon Martin shooting.  This case is the epitome of the problem with stereotypes: this was a teenager who was stereotyped out of his life.  Its absurd enough that we say a person can&#8217;t do something because of their gender, or race, but even in the 21st century, someone was denied the right to live, simply because they fit the most minute portion of a stereotype.  How can we accept this when we claim a society where anybody can aspire to be anything they want to be? How can it be accepted that those who fit certain genders or races, automatically lose some societal rights of passage simply for those states?
